Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention: Professional Development Workshop

Fountas and Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) supports students who are reading and writing below year-level expectations from Foundation to Year 12. This workshop is designed to develop a pedagogical understanding of literacy intervention, and to provide practical approaches for effective implementation and use of Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, participants should be able to:

  • understand how to effectively implement LLI within the context of a comprehensive and integrated literacy curriculum.
  • identify behaviours and understandings that indicate a need for literacy intervention.
  • effectively assess, plan and teach with LLI.
  • understand the value of ongoing professional learning to improve student literacy outcomes.

Completing the Fountas & Pinnell: Leveled Literacy Intervention workshop will contribute 5 hours of QTC Registered PD addressing the following Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW. Accreditation is processed after completion of the workshop and only upon request.

  

Victorian Educators: Aspects of this workshop address AITSL Standard 1.5, which can be applied to the professional learning requirements outlined in the VIT’s Special Needs Plan.

This workshop addresses the following AITSL Standards:

  • 1.2 Expand understanding of how students learn using research and workplace knowledge
  • 1.5 Differentiate teaching to meet the specific needs of students across the full range of abilities
  • 2.5 Apply knowledge and understanding of effective teaching strategies to support students' literacy achievement
  • 5.2 Provide timely, effective and appropriate feedback about student achievement in relation to their learning goals
  • 6.2 Engage in professional learning and improve practice

Target Audience

Educators from schools where Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention has recently been adopted, or who have joined a school where it is already in use. 

Please note that this workshop is not suitable for educators who are in the process of assessing whether Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention is the best resource for their school.

Prerequisites

Review LLI System Components: We strongly recommend that all participants prepare for this workshop by familiarising themselves with the components in the LLI system(s) they will be using, as the workshop does not include a product unpack. We also recommend that you read through the LLI Sampler for the system(s) you have purchased and will be using (available upon request from info@pearsonacademy.com.au).

Pre-reading: We also strongly recommend that you complete the pre-reading outlined below.

If possible, please bring your copy of The Fountas & Pinnell Literacy Continuum to the workshop.
