Bounce Back! Professional Development Workshop

Award-winning Bounce Back! is the world's first Positive Education program. It consists of practical resources and strategies designed to teach social and emotional learning skills within a school environment, and to support and promote student wellbeing and resilience. This engaging and practical workshop will ensure all participants develop a thorough understanding of the Bounce Back! program and have the confidence to utilise it effectively in their school.

Resilience is the ability to adapt to stress and adversity and even be strengthened by these challenges.

Resilience is the ability to bounce back from hardship while retaining a positive mindset and sense of self. Resilience is an important skill to teach, because all young people experience hardships, adversity and challenges.

The Bounce Back! Professional Development Workshop

This workshop provides educators with an in-depth exploration of the Bounce Back! program for resilience and wellbeing, as well as the tools necessary to use the program effectively.

Workshop Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, participants should:

  • have a general understanding of the psychological principles, pedagogy and research that underpin the program.
  • have a strong understanding of the program’s core structure and curriculum units.
  • be able to use Bounce Back! effectively to develop and foster student wellbeing and resilience.
  • be able to incorporate children’s literature into teaching key wellbeing and resilience concepts.
  • be able to implement, embed and sustain the Bounce Back! program within the classroom and across the school.

This workshop addresses the following AITSL Standards:

  • 1.1 Use teaching strategies based on physical, social and intellectual development and characteristics of students to improve student learning
  • 1.2 Expand understanding of how students learn using research and workplace knowledge
  • 1.3 Design and implement teaching strategies that are responsive to the learning strengths and needs of students from diverse linguistic, cultural, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • 3.1 Set explicit, challenging and achievable learning goals for all students
  • 3.5 Use effective verbal and non-verbal communication strategies to support student understanding, participation, engagement and achievement
  • 4.1 Model effective practice and support colleagues to implement inclusive strategies that engage and support all students
  • 4.4 Maintain student safety
  • 6.2 Engage in professional learning and improve practice

Prerequisites

Please bring your Bounce Back! resource with you to the workshop. If you don't have one yet, please let us know!

If you are not yet familiar with Bounce Back, we recommend viewing this short video introduction with Dr Toni Noble.

Target Audience

This workshop is designed for educators and allied health professionals working with young people in Foundation to Year 6.

This workshop is best suited if you:

  • Have recently started your Bounce Back! journey
  • Are new to a school that is currently using Bounce Back!

Bounce Back! is a Wellbeing and Resilience Program promoting positive mental health and student wellbeing at school.

Created by Helen McGrath and Toni Noble, this is a whole-school program (Foundation to Year 8) providing students with practical strategies and life skills to handle challenges and adversity encountered.
