Planning for Effective Reading Instruction

For educators who use the Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System (BAS), an engaging and practical workshop designed to help you leverage the breadth of The Literacy Continuum, the core teaching resource in each BAS system. Learn how to identify emphases for teaching using BAS results, and how to plan and teach to improve students' Literacy skills using The Literacy Continuum.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, participants should:

  • Be able to adeptly navigate and utilise The Fountas & Pinnell Literacy Continuum (The Literacy Continuum)
  • Be able to use evidence gathered through assessment and observation to plan for responsive teaching utilising The Literacy Continuum.
  • Understand how The Literacy Continuum can be utilised to plan for, teach and develop literacy skills.
  • Recognise the importance of using a common language across the school community to provide continuity of learning for all students.

 

Please note: Workshops will not be confirmed to proceed until we reach minimum numbers, so please check with us before you make any travel or accommodation bookings. 

Prerequisites

Participants should have completed the Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System: Professional Development Workshop, or have participated in equivalent professional development at their school. Participants must be familiar with the Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System, as it will be referred to throughout the workshop.

Read the Introduction to The Fountas & Pinnell Literacy Continuum prior to the workshop.

Bring your copy of The Fountas & Pinnell Literacy Continuum and a complete BAS assessment for one student, to the workshop.

Target Audience

Educators from schools where the Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System has recently been adopted, or who have joined a school where it is already in use.

Please note that this workshop is not suitable for educators who are in the process of assessing whether the Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System is the best resource for their school.
